an interview about shooting film

dan zvereff shared this interview with me recently.
http://www.japancamerahunter.com/2014/06/film-news-adox-interview/

even though it's not really the reason i shoot ektar, it's interesting to hear that,
"Ektar can record about 20% more information on a 35mm film than the highest resolution 35mm Digital Camera (Nikon D800) can capture."
also interesting to hear is,
"stop scanning like crazy ... Paper consumption is what keeps the factories running. Not film."
i also wasn't particularly into photos always being captioned as being shot on film, since there's more to a photo than the medium, but i am concerned about rising film prices and the lack of old and new emulsions, so i feel obliged to share:

the majority of my photography, seen here on this blogspot, allenying.com, and in 43 magazine, is shot on film, and 100% of what i've posted on lovebryan.com/allen is shot on film as well. it is the photography i fell in love with, and i can't say the same has happened with digital photography. i hope you can enjoy shooting film too, it may not cost as much as buying an updated $3500 SLR every few years.

stoops magazine

eby ghafarian is launching the 1st and only all new york city skateboard magazine, 'stoops'.

this is the review from 43magazine.com:
eby ghafarian is launching an all new york city skateboard magazine, quite frankly because it would be too awesome not to. actually it’s kind of insane that it hasn’t already existed for decades. 43 issue 003, our all new york city issue, is just a taste of what stoops will be. there is a full spectrum of influential talent, projects, and potential in new york skateboarding that 43, or any other magazine, could only scratch the surface of. sure, we have various local video projects, and they’re amazing, but to be honest it’s kind of a tragedy that so little of it is photographed and displayed. the most photographed city in the world has one of the most unexposed skate scenes.
stoops is crowd funding for a reader supported first issue. you may have heard that kickstarter can be a place for indistinctive projects that don’t serve a purpose, need, or audience other than the project starter, this is obviously not the case with what stoops is offering for our community. especially if you are a skateboarder in new york, it would be a disservice to not contribute.
these are some of my photos we leaked as teasers,

ryan lay - frontside wallride - manhattan, new york - 2013

subway skating

connor kammerer - backside 180 nosegrind - queens, new york - 2012

it's been about a year since i joined colin read and crew on their subway skating missions.
it is likely my favorite project i've ever been a part of.
this is a bonus unpublished photo from the series.
the majority of this series is published in 43 magazine issue 003.
colin read's video 'tengu' is out now on dvd, and includes a full subway skating section as well as a roof skating section.
check mandibleclaw.com to get the dvd for yourself or local skate shop, as well as to watch trailers.
gothamist seems to have taken a liking to the project.

there is a light and it never goes out
